Title: Disquiet over plan to replace NITDA acting DG
Post by: Mirror on Sep 30, 2013, 01:31 PM
Plan to replace the Acting Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, is causing ripples in the Ministry of Communication, which supervises the agency.

The acting DG, Dr. Ashiru Sani Daura, from Mai'Aduwa in Katsina State, who was a director in Software Outsourcing, was in July appointed to succeed Prof. Cleopas Angaye, a native of Okoloba, Bayelsa State, who served for a maximum term of eight years as prescribed by NITDA Act 2007.

It was learnt that there were moves to replace Daura with another lower ranking officer from the southern part of the country.

It was also learnt that some management officers of the agency were kicking against the alleged submission of another person's name to the Presidency for confirmation as the substantive DG of the agency.

Daura was not available for comment but another official of the agency, who pleaded anonymity, confirmed the development.

The official said their opposition to the plan to replace Daura was not sentimental but to avoid a situation where the gains recorded by the agency under Angaye and being sustained under Daura would be eroded.

The NITDA Governing Board was dissolved in 2011 and a new board and substantive DG are expected to be appointed by the government to boost the IT sector and make it competitive globally.
