Post by: Mirror on Oct 11, 2013, 11:31 PM
Members of the House of Representatives Committee on Special Duties yesterday visited the Presidential Villa in an unprecedented oversight function assignment.

The committee led by its Chairman, Hon. Nadi Karibo, was conducted round the State House by the State House Permanent Secretary, Emmanuel Ogbile, after which they visited President Goodluck Jonathan in his office.

Karibo, who led 22 of the 36 member-committee, visited the State House Medical Centre and several offices within the Presidential Villa.

Speaking with State House correspondents after the inspection, Karibo said members of the committee were impressed with the projects in the State House, particularly the renovation and extension work going on at the State House clinic.

According to him, he was impressed that the State House clinic was not only made available to staff of the State House, but also provides services to others.

Karibo said he was happy that the President would open his doors and enable members to come freely and perform oversight function, saying that it was unusual.

He said it was not true that the House of Representatives is always at loggerheads with the executive arm of government, saying that it was wrong to have the opinion that unless there was quarrel with the executive, then the legislators are not working.
