The 2011 DA-BAR and IRRI Training Scholarships is a special program conceptualized by the Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) and IRRI. It aims to provide opportunities and support in training the new generation of Filipino rice scientists and extension workers, thereby improving the capacity of participating Philippine academic and local government institutions in rice science and development. The program will also provide the resources for attracting the brightest young people and moulding them into future leaders at all levels of rice research and development.
As a leading global rice research organization, IRRI is an excellent location for young rice researchers and graduate students to engage in internships and training where they can be supervised by leading scientists in a world class scientific environment. Qualified rice scientists and extension workers, state university /college instructors and professors. from the Philippines are invited to apply for Global Rice Science Scholarships (DA-BAR and IRRI Training Scholarships) at IRRI. The program specially welcomes women applicants.
The Scholarships
Level: The scholarship is for internship and on-the-job training at IRRI. Internship slots are for students from eligible State Universities and Colleges. On-the-job training slots are for qualified rice scientists and extension workers, state university /college instructors and professors from eligible Philippine Agricultural Agencies and Universities.
Scholarship period: 2 weeks to 3 months depending on the topic of research
Research areas: Rice science and related systems research
Scholarship benefits: Round trip airfare to/from Manila (if applicable); monthly stipend to cover lodging, laundry and food/subsistence; local medical and accident insurance; local travel as required; computer and network access and research support.
