The 2011 ESA Regional Rice Science Scholarships represent a special program of the Japan Rice Breeding Project (JRBP) of IRRI that aims to improve the capacity of rice researchers in the East and Southern Africa (ESA) region in quality and quantity. This program will also provide resources for attracting the brightest young people and molding them into future leaders at all levels of rice research and development.
As a leading global rice research organization, IRRI is an excellent location for young rice researchers and graduate students to do their MS and PhD research, where they can be supervised by leading scientists in a world-class scientific environment. Qualified students who are about to enroll for their MS or PhD are invited to apply for these scholarships. We provide a gender-sensitive environment and strongly encourage women applicants.
Level: The scholarships are for MS and PhD degrees
Scholarship period
• Up to 2 years for MS
• Up to 3 years for PhD
Research areas: Rice science and rice-related cropping systems research
Scholarship benefits
• Round-trip airfare to/from Manila (if applicable) or to/from university to country of origin;
• Monthly allowance to cover board, lodging, medical and accident insurance, and other incidental expenses;
• Local travel as required; and
• Research support.
