Title: Corruption: My successors have failed - Obansanjo
Post by: emezico on Jun 16, 2011, 09:12 PM
It is ironical to read about the comments former Nigeria president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, made at the 100th session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland. He spoke about his successors not been able to tackle corruption in Nigerian, after he left power.

Till date, Obasanjo administration is labelled as, the most corrupt civilian administration, both locally and internationally, since the inception of democracy in Nigeria.

FORMER  president, Chief  Olusegun Obasanjo, on Wednesday, indicted his successors in office at the ongoing 100th session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland. He declared that the current regime in Nigeria lacks the will to fight corruption.

Speaking at the conference, Obasanjo said "If you are going to fight corruption, it is not a one night or one day war. You have to be consistent and persistent with it. I haven't seen that will of persistency and consistency in Nigeria, because the people that are involved in corruption are strongly entrenched and unless you are ready to confront them at the point of even giving your life for it, then you will give in and when you give in, that is the end of it,".

He also attributed the problem of corruption in Nigeria to the emergence of the black gold (Oil). He said, "We didn't see beyond the oil. That was one of the misfortunes of Nigeria or regrets of Nigeria but more importantly, corruption came in.

What has "Baba Iyabo" got to say about corruption. What has he achieved in tackling corruptions in Nigeria during his 8-year democratic rule. If he is indicting his successor, then he is also a failure because he implanted his successor himself.

Among those corrupt people identified by EFCC, how many of them faced the wrath of law during Obasanjo's regime?

You are right, he implanted his successor. If not Jonathan, Yaradua, which was glaring to every Nigerian.

l suppose he is acting the role of "Mr nice guy" in the eyes of the international community. It's a shame!
