Former Golden Eaglets coach, Alphonsus Dike has said he is not surprised that the side started their title campaign strongly against champions, Mexico.

Eaglets on Saturday defeated the Mexican opponents 6-1 in the first group game of the Fifa Under-17 World Cup decided at the Khalifa Bin Zayed Stadium in Al-Ain.

Dike said the massive victory was expected as the coach Manu Garba tutored side have been brilliant in their past challenges.

"Great! That's a massive win and good start to their title campaign. I'm not surprised at the result because they've been doing excellently well in previous competitions.

"I must congratulate them by asking the side to keep up the good work in their next matches," said the former Nasarawa United coach to supersport.com.

Dike said Eaglets next group opponents, Sweden and Iraq are not a match to the Nigerians.

"Eaglets may have played their toughest group game against Mexico as I don't see either Sweden or Iraq troubling them. Sweden and Iraq are not a force in the under-aged competition but that's not to say Eaglets should go to sleep or underrate the sides," said the former Enugu Rangers coach.

Dike said he will be disappointed should the Eaglets fail to make it to the podium on November 08.

"Of course, I expect them to win the title given their pedigree, I'll be disappointed if at the end of the day they failed to clinch the title," Dike enthused.

Eaglets next opponents at the biennial football showpiece will be Sweden on Tuesday in Al-Ain while newcomers, Iraq will take their turn on Thursday in Dubai.
Sweeden is currently leading them 2 goals to 1 so they really need to bounce back in that game as soon as possible
