According to him, this is the first phase of the proposed seven ultra- modern general hospitals in the seven zones of the State. He also indicated that that the hospital would be of similar standard with the Kelsey Harrison Specialist Hospital which is located along Emenike Street in the Diobu axis of Port Harcourt.

The Chief Medical Director further said that work has already commenced in the first phase which comprises: Bori, Degema, Ahoada and Okehi General Hospitals; saying the second phase would include – Isiokpo, Bonny and Okrika General Hospitals.

Okere Iragunima added that the contractor is expected to complete the construction work, including equipment by 2014. "We believe that by 2014, the hospitals would be ready for commissioning because the contractors have between one year and one and half years to deliver," he noted.
