The Management and staff of Ministry of Agriculture has commended their Commissioner, Mr. James Aniyom for the quality leadership he has exhibited since he come on board as Commissioner.
The commendation was made by the Director of Administration in the Ministry, Dr. Innocent Adie on behalf of the Workers while speaking to newsmen in his office.
Dr. Adie said that the success story of service delivery, which had led to the Ministry distinguishing itself as best all round Ministry in the State at the recently concluded Civil Service Day Celebration, was attributed to the sense of direction given to the Ministry by the Commissioner.
Aside being the best performing Ministry, Dr. Adie also disclosed that the Ministry equally grabbed the best award in extension services as well as second best in the category of best Directors, noting that these achievements were as a result of the humane leadership style of the Commissioner and assured of the workers' willingness to give him the needed support and co-operation to enable him break new grounds in the days ahead.
He advised all Agricultural extension workers in the field, to see themselves as agents of change in the Agricultural sector of the economy by transferring the Agricultural Technology knowledge and skills to farmers to boost proper application of Agricultural inputs in order to increase the yield per hectare in line with the world standard.
Speaking further, the Director of Administration stated that in order to ensure that fertilizer gets to the farmers as at when due, the State Government had to pay 25 percent, as well as Federal Government, while the beneficiaries had to contribute 50 percent for the cost of the fertilizer supplied.
He also stated that in order to ensure easy accessibility as well as save cost of transportation, 48 redemption centres have been established where farmers were expected to go for their fertilizer, adding that such fertilizer was distributed for use in the following chains, which include, cassava, rice, cocoa, oil palm, among others, with the expected result of creating wealth as well as checking the alarming rate of unemployment and general poverty level in the society.
The Chairman thanked the Governor for attending the workshop and said he was happy to see him.
On his part, the Governor, welcomed the train-the-trainer event which he said would greatly assist to fill the capacity gaps in the effective execution of Redd and other sustainable forest management programmes and used the opportunity to commend the efforts of GCF Secretariat in mounting the training events.
