Title: Onne Free Trade Zone to create 60,000 jobs for Nigerians

The Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Samuel Ortom has revealed Government's plan to create more than 60,000 jobs for its citizens through the Onne Free Trade Zone; saying more than 30,000 people are already working there as a result of investments in the zone.

While speaking in Port Harcourt during the inauguration of a 13-man Committee for the organization of the 2013 Oil and Gas Trade and Investment recently, the Minister of State said that the present administration is concerned with attracting investments into the country, especially in the area of oil and gas with a view to creating jobs for its teaming population.

He further noted that the sector has contributed significantly to the development of the economy over the years, pointing out that the free trade zone concept would be central and strategic to defining a sustainable transformation for the national economy. Samuel Ortom further explained that the concept is anchored on effective framework of regulations and guidelines to fetch the finest dividends to investors and Nigerian economy.

In his acceptance speech, the Chairman of the 13-man Committee for the organization of the 2013 Oil and Gas Trade and Investment, Chibuisi Onyebuene said that the team would mobilise over 500 investors who are operating in the zone as well as investors from all over the world.
