Title: Governor’s Cup: Kids’ Clinic takes off

In a bid to raise a new generation of players that will make the country proud in future, the Local Organising Committee, LOC, of the Governor's Cup Lagos Tennis Championship is holding a four- day clinic for U-10 and U-14 players.

The Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan was a beehive of activities yesterday morning as no fewer than 76 kids participated in Day One of the clinic coordinated by Mr. Wale Oke and supervised by International Tennis Federation, ITF, certified coaches such as Uzor Okiti, Peter Osagie, Sunday Igbinovia, Henry Shedrach, Seun Olawunmi, Margaret Olagundoye and Dipo Ewetuga.

The kids were exposed to the rudiments of tennis such as how to serve and firsthand knowledge on how to play the game. Meanwhile it was a double loss for Nigeria's Shehu Lawal as he lost to India's Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan 6-0,6-3 in the men's singles and Mithun Murali from India and Tunde Segodo of Benin 6-3,6-2,10-8 in the second round match of the doubles where he partnered with Sunday Maku.

Kehinde Alade lost 6-1,6-0 to South African Ruan Roelofse while top seed, Croatia's Borna Coric dumped Theophile Segodo of Benin 6-2,6-1. Number four seed Ante Pavic (CRO) defeated Mithun Murali (IND) 6-1,6- 4. Dino Marcan (CRO) beat Alexis Klegou (BEN) 7-5,6-2, Japanese Star, Hiroki Kondo crushed Benenoise, Felix Hounkpevi 6-2,6-2 while Andre Gaspar Murta from Portugal ousted David Chaplefeh Forchap from Germany 6-1,6-2.
