Title: Ogun State - Ogun initiates step to sell farm products at standardized prices
Post by: OgunState on Oct 26, 2013, 01:31 PM
Better days are here for consumers of farm products in the Ogun State as the government has started the construction of a farmer market in Asero, Abeokuta South Local Government Area of the State.     When completed, the market would be an avenue for consumers to buy such products directly from farmers.  Speaking at the market’s foundation laying ceremony, Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs. Ronke Sokefun said the market would also encourage standardization in agric product marketing.     The market, according to her would consist of a shopping hall for packaged products, 24 units of stalls some of which would be fitted with fish tanks, two stores, two offices, a borehole, waste disposal unit and an expansive car-park.     Sokefun pointed out that it would also be an outlet for marketing the products of the various agricultural projects initiated by the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led administration.     The initiatives, she recalled include the State model Farm Estates in Owowo expected to produce fish, egg, vegetable, maize and gari, Green House Project in Kotopo that would produce pepper, tomatoes and cucumber, the fish farms located in Odeda, Ilaro and Ikenne as well as processed rice from the Rice Farm in Eggua.     Mrs. Sokefun therefore called on members of the public to take advantage of the Farmers market expected to be commissioned by Governor Ibikunle Amosun by December.
