Title: Glasgow 2014: 75 athletes to hit AFN camp

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has invited 75 athletes to resume at its conditioning camp which opens on Sunday in Abuja in preparation for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games holding in July 2014.

The athletes comprise 41 male and 34 females.

According to a statement signed by Head, Communication and Media, Olukayode Thomas, the athletes are to be tutored by the following coaches; Daniel Etsebiminor, Femi Emmanuel, Isaac Ikhabomeh and Tobias Igwe.

Completing the list of the coaches are Akinpelu Saheed Ayinde, Solomon Aliyu, Maria Usifo, George Abadoni, Olu Sule, Peter Oboh, Kola Adebayo, Ken Onuaguluchi, Omizi Dauda and Adebayo Bada.

He stated that the federation was determined to ensure that her athletes make podium appearance at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, hence the need to commence early preparation.

Some of the male athletes invited are Akerele Omeiza, Anthony Egode, Arinze Obiora, Babajide Okulaja, Briggs Tamunotonye and Chukwudike Harry.

Also invited for the preparation are Egwero Ogho-Oghene, Elvis Ukale, Ezeofor Kenechukwu, Imhoaperamhe Nicholas and Isah Salihu.

Making up the long male list are Martins Ogieriakhi, Odeka Gerald, Oduduru Divine, Soudji Hamajam, Osanyande Friday, Ogunmola Tobi, Obinna Metu and Stanley Gbagbeke.

Abugan Folasade leads the list of females invited which also includes names like Adekoya Oluwakemi , Amadi Chinazom Doris, Brume Ese, Deborah Adewale, Daramola Feyisayo, Ibrahim Blessing Ibukun, Josephine Ehigie and Miriam Bassey.

Also gunning for final selection among the female contingent are Omotosho Omolara, Queen Obisesan, Uko Peace, Uwakwe Nkiruka and Folake Balogun, amongst others.

AFN Technical Director and Chairman Technical Committee, Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama directed all athletes, coaches and officials to report at the NSCDC Training Academy along Umar Musa Yar 'Adua Road (Airport Road) Abuja on Sunday, October 27, 2013. The cut-off date for registration and admission into the camp is Wednesday, 30th October 2013.

Nesiama said physiological and bio-mechanic assessment of athletes would take place as soon as registration is completed. Athletes will not be admitted into the camp after Wednesday October 30.
