The Nigerian Armed Forces yesterday sent 93 medical personnel to the United Nations peace-keeping mission in Darfur. . The 93 military medical personnel drawn from the three services of the Nigerian Armed Forces with the name "Nigerian Level II Hospital" are to leave Nigeria for Darfur Region of Sudan next week.
The Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Centre (NAPKC) had graduated Nigerian military and officers of other West African countries from maiden 'Camp Management Safety and Security Course 1 of 2013. Speaking at the combined graduation ceremony of the Nigerian medical team after their pre deployment training in Jaji, Kaduna yesterday to Darfur Commandant of NAPKC, Maj. Gen. Salihu Uba advised the medical team to bring combatant skills to bear while in Darfur.
He added that they must work to convince international partners that their commitment and resources to the Nigerian Armed Forces in building peacekeepers' capacity are justified. On the camp management course, Gen. Uba said application of the training received in the field would, in many ways, enhance the security and safety of personnel and civilians.
He pointed out that the maiden course package was designed to meet the current multi-dimensional setting in a complex Peace Support Operation (PSO) environment and to effectively deliver necessary protection and aid to internally displaced persons.
The 24 pioneer participants of the course were drawn from the Nigerian, Ghana, Borkina Faso, Mali, Sierra-Leone and Togolese armies, as well as Nigeria Police and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) among others.
