Unknown gunmen on suspected to be members of a terrorist gang on Friday night opened fire on police officers, killing one of them.
Sunday Mirror gathered that the incident happened in Ungwan Dosa, Kaduna North Local Government area within the metropolis on Friday night, leaving one police officer and a passerby injured.
It was further learnt that the victims were rushed to Saint Gerald Catholic Hospital, Kakuri Kaduna for medical attention before one of them died.
According to an eyewitness account, the attack caused confusion in the area as people were running for their safety. "Friday night at about 8pm, I heard gunshots in our neighbouring houses before we know people started running left, right and centre.
The gun shots lasted for 20 to 30 minutes only" In a telephone interview, St. Gerald Catholic Hospital Public Relations Officer, Mr Sunday Ali confirmed the story. He said, "Three injured persons were brought to our hospital but one police officer among them died. A civilian and another police officer are now responding to treatment.
They brought them in Friday night." Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Adenaike confirmed the attack, adding, "one policeman died and another was injured, while the gunmen equally escaped with bullet wounds."
Also, about six persons died in Kaduna in the early hours of yesterday as two fuel-laden tankers collided, causing explosion in Mararraban Jos, near the capital city.
According to an eyewitness account, the incident happened at 3am, when an oncoming trailer ran into a petrol tanker that was reversing into the main road. The eyewitness added that as soon as the two vehicles collided, they caught fire, burning the two drivers and other accompanying workers in the vehicles, to ashes.
