Post by: FMINigeria on Oct 28, 2013, 03:31 PM
The Minister of Power, Chinedu Nebo has called on the Ministry's sports club to become vanguards in the sector's on-going campaign for energy conservation and anti-vandalism of power equipment through propagation in different sports fora.

Chinedu Nebo made the charge recently when the leadership of the Ministry's sports club led by its Team Manager, John Chukwu paid him a courtesy call in his office in Abuja. He stated from statistics that 35% of the power consumed  in Nigeria is utilised through electric bulbs; saying this can be reduced to 10% with the use of LED bulbs, thereby saving the remaining 25% for industrial and other usages.

The Power Minister explained the need for energy to be conserved through this method; adding that more power would be provided for use in Nigeria as promised by President Goodluck Jonathan who is ready to do even more to ensure that Nigerians have uninterrupted power supply. He noted that a 50-watts LED bulb has the capacity to produce brighter light in comparson to a 500-watt conventional bulb.

He also assured the club continuous support from the Ministry in all sporting activities. "Health is wealth and sporting activities can only guarantee good health," he indicated. The Minister tasked the sports club to mobilise staff to participate in all sporting activities, including the monthly walking- jogging exercise to make the workforce sound and healthy.

Nebo urged the club to utilise the exercise as avenue to sensitise Nigerians, stressing that some of the power sector's campaign programmes will soon be made public, involving road shows to showcase and spread messages far and wide.
