Title: Eagles Have Wings Clipped In Amman
Post by: Folami David on Oct 28, 2013, 08:27 PM
Nigeria's Super Eagles were on Monday defeated 0-1 in an international friendly match at the Amman International Stadium.
.
Jordan captain, Hatem Aqel, scored the only goal of the match from the spot in the opening half to seal a win for the Asians.
.
Nigeria enjoyed a good spell of possession until the Jordanians took charge of the game mid-way into the first 45 minutes.
.
Inside the opening quarter, the Super Eagles got close to scoring when Oghenekaro Etebo threaded a pass into Sunday Mba's path but the former's heavy touch gives the Jordanian backline a second chance to clear.
.
The game though had its fair share of physical touch and in the 43rd minute, Jordan were awarded a soft penalty when Rabiu Ali was adjudged to have tugged Yousef in the Nigerian penalty area.
.
Aqel stepped up and scored from the spot to give Jordan the lead by sending Chigozie Agbim in goal for Nigeria the wrong way.
.
The Jordanians took the one-goal lead into the break. Nigeria started the restart with so much pace and movement behind the ball.
.
Mba came close to putting Nigeria level on 53 minutes after turning inside two of his markers but he could only manage to squeeze his left-footed shot off target.
