The President of the Muslim community in Osun State, Sheikh Salahudeen Olayiwola, yesterday said those criticising the new education policy of Governor Rauf Aregbesola are doing so out of ignorance.
Olayiwola, who said this yesterday at a press conference to herald Hejira 1435, said if the critics are aware of the goodies that the state government has in stock for the people of the state on this policy, they would have given their support to it in totality. He, however, charged them to work hand in hand with the government to be able to transform the education sector in the state.
The president, who preached peace and harmony among religious bodies in the state, commended Governor Aregbesola on the decision taken in transforming the education sector and charged him to maintain the tempo. Olayiwola further maintained that the state could only progress in the atmosphere of unity and oneness, advising all religious bodies to work as a team to make the state more virile.
He argued further that Islamic religion preaches peace and those practicing it are always for peace, adding that he knew also that the same thing goes for Christianity.
"If we can now live in peace and harmony, remarkable achievements will be achieved in the state and intimidating successes will be recorded as well. In a related development, religious leaders especially the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state have been enjoined not to encourage religious discrimination.
The Secretary-General of the International Council for Ifa Religion, Chief Adesina Aresa, made the appeal yesterday while speaking with journalists at the 2013 edition of the Ifa Festival of Ogunda-Meji Temple, Apata- Ganga, Ibadan, which had in attendance the President of the temple, Baba Awo Awogbemiga Bogunmbe and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Okanran- Onile Production, Baba Awo Adewale Bogunmbe.
He said the recent protest by CAN leaders in the state against the new education policy of Governor Aregbesola was because the governor does not discriminate against any religion in the state.
So far, Education has not been taken seriously in this country and it's really sad. Something has to be done!
