Location: Nigeria, Kenya(Preferably Kenyans or Nigerians leaving in Kenya).
PURPOSE: To provide a conduit between the company's and the Federal Government focusing on all issues that will ensure a smooth working relationship. Responsibilities will also span various governments on behalf of the company
Dimensions: Scope: North East Africa Affiliate (8 Countries) with major focus on our two biggest markets (Nigeria & Kenya)
Context: the Company aims to be the healthcare leader in countries they operate in. In the light of increased competitiveness within the industry, more stringent regulations and the passion to be compliant in all spheres of our operations in all countries, there is the need to foster relations with the federal government and seek proactive ways of creating a positive image for the company to the Government.
Direct Reports: Public Affairs Manager
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Oversee all government related facets of the Medical, Marketing, Communications and General Manager's office, ensuring compliance with Government requirements
• Fulfil board expectations and with the Government and federal laws, policies, regulations and operating agreements.
• Oversees and represents the General Manager in interactions with Key Government Officials to build trust, preserve and develop the reputation of The company's as a patient focused company
• Ensure appropriate access to the Government consistent with the strategic needs of the company.
• Lead the development of strategies and operational plans for all external affairs including business and community relationships; government and legislative affairs; and public relations and communications to provide a cohesive and comprehensive perspective on the company.
• Develop and maintain solid relationships with appropriate Government regulatory and coalition partner staffs, attend relevant meetings and networking activities with National / Regional Health Systems, government, local Industrial Pharma Association and influencers to optimize the institutional environment for the development of our growth platforms and key products and to contribute to the company's growth.
• Deliver a coordinated interaction strategy and formulation of relevant positions and solutions for the management of relationships with Government, external stakeholders and communities
• Develop and implement mechanisms designed to enhance public understanding of the organization's objectives, achievements, and strategies to ensure communications between the organization and the government are in the organization's best interests
• Design and propose public / private partnerships that position The company's as a Public Health reference and build long term relationships with decisions makers and the civil society (patient associations, NGO...) for promoting The company's image
• Recruit, manage, train and motivate direct reporting staff according to company values
• Perform other duties and projects assigned
Knowledge & Experience:
• A Bachelor's degree or its equivalent with a medical or pharmacist background.
• 10 – 15 years experience.
• A post graduate qualification or professional certification is desirable.
• Long and diversified practical experience in related fields of Pharma Industry with proven success records in Public Affairs
• Broad knowledge and experience with MOH regulatory affairs
• Strong ethical standards required to model desired behaviour.
Skills:
• Excellent presentation and communication skills (both oral and written). Can converse confidently in French.
• Ability to skilfully engage at all levels to facilitate a culture of openness and communication.
• Ability to influence at senior levels.
• Highly developed business acumen.
• Highly developed interpersonal skills required to foster value-adding relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
• The individual should have broad knowledge and be able to influence at a senior level liaising with the Minister at the Ministry of Health and other relevant Ministries making sure that those Ministries know what we are doing and we know what they are planning.
• An ancillary role is to keep abreast of the Presidential race and make sure that the company's story is represented and told to any presidential hopefuls in the best possible light.
• Ideally it would be someone fairly senior with a good profile/reputation either in the Medical or Government relations background. It could also be someone who is retired or even from the Ministry.
• Someone that can interface with the Ministry and protect and defend our interests: someone who has credibility, able to handle pressure and is committed to respecting deadlines
Working Relationships: – Internal: Medical, Marketing, Sales, Communications, Commercial Directors and all other departments of the Affiliate – External: Other The company's OpCos, the Government, French Embassy, International Health Organisations and authorities, Scientific Institutions, media, social networks, and all other External PA parties.
