Post by: Mirror on Oct 31, 2013, 11:31 PM
Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Mr. Segun Oladitan, yesterday assured that the forthcoming local government election would be credible and transparent.

Oladitan, who spoke at a meeting with member of the newly inaugurated board of the electoral body in Osogbo, the state capital, urged politicians to abide by the rules guiding the conduct of the poll.

Stressing that OSSIEC would not let the people down, the chairman said: "Transparency and credibility are our watchwords; we re-affirm that we will not, in any way, disappoint the people of Osun.

"We are set to conduct a free, fair and transparent local government election and we will not let our people down. We are committed to the state and its advancement and we will uphold all the rules and principles of the election to ensure that things are done properly."

Oladitan noted that OSSIEC members had made their marks in their various callings and as such would not engage in acts that would tarnish their image.

He stressed that the Commission would adhere to the principle of "one man, one vote" with a view to making the people's votes count.

Oladitan said: "The Commission will not serve the interest of any person or group no matter the pressure from either politicians or any self-seeking individual."

He, therefore, solicited for the support of all stakeholders, particularly the media to ensure the success of the poll.
