Roles and responsibilities:

• To design the program with close participation of Sokoto state government and applicable TSHIP advisors and specialists,

• To Increase demand for CHX and Misoprostol through learning visits for Nigerian state government officials and leaders to the combined CHX and Misoprostol program in Sokoto,

• To stimulate the local supply of CHX through a Lomus technological transfer study tour to three selected Nigerian Manufacturers.

• Coordinate the Informal network of CHX manufacturer's in Nigeria

• The successful candidate will also be expected to work closely with the TSHIP Program Learning team on publications and using social media platforms to increase awareness of Chlorhexidine 4% for card care. To increase demand for CHX and Misoprostol through learning visits for Nigerian state government officials and leaders to the combined CHX and Misoprostol program in Sokoto.

• To leverage the work of USAID funded TSHIP in CHX and Misoprostol advocacy, to encourage Nigerian state government's interest in the drugs.

• Work with CHX advisor, States' Ministries of Health, Ministries of Local Government who oversee primary health care and States' Primary Health Care Agencies, to secure commitment to increase enabling environment for, and purchase and distribute Chlorhexidine 4%, which in turn creates commitments required by and to sustain its local manufacture.

• To work in close coordination with U.S. Pharmacopoeia (USP), PATH, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), and the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) to assure zero duplication of efforts Supply

• Support the Abuja-based Chlorhexidine Advisor's work with NAFDAC, USP, FMoH and three shortlisted manufacturing firms to ensure local manufacture of Chlorhexidine 4% for cord care and the prevention of cord-related infections in Nigeria;

• Engage, network with at least three local manufacturing companies in the local production, marketing and wide distribution of quality, affordable Chlorhexidine 4% in gel and other dispersible forms for neonates that address particular birth circumstances;

• Support the FMOH, NPHCDA and other partners including at the state and local levels to incorporate Chlorhexidine gel 4% into the Essential Medicines List, State drug lists and into all relevant government policies and guidelines;

• Improve forecasting, procurement and supply of quality Chlorhexidine gel 4% in public sector;

Key Milestones:

• Buy-in for participation in the learning visits to Sokoto as confirmed by representatives from the ten states within the first two months of the project

• Representatives from the ten states having completed learning visits to Sokoto by project end

• At least seven of the participating states having taken discernible and verifiable steps towards procurement of CHX and Misoprostol by project

• Other duties as assigned by the Chief of Party IV.

Competencies:

• A proven track record in government, NGO or the private sector to contribute to both national and global child health goals.

• Strong writing skills

• Project management experience either in public health, social economic skills or business.

• Previous experience working with other donors and multilateral agencies

• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain multi-stakeholder partnerships,

• A proven ability to work as part of a team and to be self-managing

• Excellent relationship building skills; ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.

• Display cultural, gender, religion and age sensitivity and adaptability.

• Ability to maintain a professional approach and confidentiality

• Proficiency in MS Office applications, data management and analysis software packages such as MS Excel, MS Access.

• Previous experiences with media and communications would be an advantage.

• Ability and willingness to travel in the field

Skill set:

Recruitment Qualifications:  

Education: Master's Degree in Public Health, Science, Social Science, Management or related field

Experience:

• Minimum of five years of professional experience in implementing, managing or monitoring clinical/public health programs, preferably in maternal and child health

• Project management experience either in public health, social economic skills or business.

• Demonstrated ability to manage workshops and outreach activities

• Demonstrated ability to write and publish papers

• Strong leadership, analytical and problem solving skills

Language Requirements:

• Excellent technical writing and oral presentation skills highly desired

• Fluency in Hausa language

Work experience: 8 years
