Two of the most anticipated videos of the year, Wizkid's Jaiye Jaiye and Wande Coal's Rotate, have been released since last weekend. They are however not generating the sort of attention it was thought they would.
Both videos were directed by Skelewu's initial director, Sesan, and just like his Skelewu video couldn't really connect with the Skelewu fans, those of Rotate and Jaiye Jaiye are also finding it difficult to connect with them.
Unlike the videos of D'Banj's Don't Tell Me Nonsense (directed by Matt Max) and Flavour's Ada Ada (directed by Clarence Peters) which helped those songs become smash hits as they flew immediately upon release, Sesan's visuals for Jaiye Jaiye and Rotate have refused to fly immediately.
Saucy, a music critic, told Entervaganza that the two videos might still fly with time and attributed their slow start to the fact that their storylines are in stark contrast to the lyrics of the songs they represent.
"For instance, the visuals Sesan shot for Wande Coal's Rotate would have been better suited for Wizkid's Jaiye Jaiye while Jaiye Jaiye beginning in a field was odd for a song that talks about someone having fun after going from grass to grace," said Saucy. Some fan comments on Rotate in a respected music blog say it all.
"Which kyn video be dis ni. Dis na waste of money and fine gals. Wetin be Sesan wahala na. Shooooo! Fine song and rubbish video. Na only Wande Coal face I just dey see throughout the whole video.
No concept, nothing nothing. I dey vex. Video wey me dey wait 4 since," said one comment.
And another: "Sesan, I think you need a change of concept. These dark smoky blue night graphics are being used repeatedly by you. The same was in D'Banj's Finally, skelewu, and now the same in Rotate. I'm one of your fans, Sesan, so I believe you can do better than this."
Sesan should just forget about all the criticisms facing him and focus on improving his career as a video director!
No matter what has happened is in the past now ..let Sesan carry on with this job and ignore the real job
The Rotate video is cool but could've been better. Jaiye Jaiye wasn't too bad too
Sometimes the songs they are shooting the video for is always the problem. The directors can't be blamed!
