A 14-man committee, Long Lasting Insecticide Treated Nets Campaign Coordinating Network and workstreams have been inaugurated by the Ogun State Ministry of Health to control malaria attack in the State. Inaugurating the Committee in Abeokuta, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Olaokun Soyinka enjoined members to put all hands on deck to eradicate malaria parasite, pointing out that they have the ethical duty of ensuring appropriate distribution of the insecticide treated nets to all the nook and cranny of the State. The Commissioner disclosed that so far, over 2.6 million nets have been distributed to different parts of the State and urged them to work hard towards ensuring that the State comes first in the campaign against malaria attack in order to attract more donors. “You must co-ordinate your activities and harmonize same into State plan, you must ensure regular coordination meetings, facilitate timely delivery and distribution of the insecticide treated nets at the Local Government Area and ward levels and ensure that they are properly used” Soyinka charged. Enumerating responsibilities of the Committee, the State’s Malaria Control Programme Manager, Mrs. Olamide Adeyinka highlighted that among others, members were expected engage stakeholders at the Federal, State and Local Government levels as well as individuals, organizations and structures, towards mobilizing and coordinate resources for anti malaria campaigns. Adeyinka stated that the Workstreams on the other hand were to focus on technical, logistics and demand creation areas of the campaigns. The Committee is made up of the Commissioner as the Chairman, Permanent Secretary of Ministry, Director of Public Health while the Malaria Control Manager would serve as the Secretary. Others are Health Educator, Logistician, representatives from the Ministries of Information, Environment, Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs, Budget & Planning, Society for Family Health (SFH), WHO, SuNMaP and UNICEF.
