Indications today emerged that rural dwellers across Ogun State would enjoy more dividends of democracy in the coming year as the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has assured that government would release more money to the Ministry of Rural Development for project execution. Speaking at the Treasury Board meeting on 2014 budget, Governor Amosun said this would not only take burden off the State Government, but enhance rural development and stop rural-urban drift. “In the new year, the Ministry of Rural Development would be well funded because it will take burden off the State Government and the rural people will be well impacted “Amosun stated. He affirmed that more project vehicles would also be provided for officials of the Ministry to adequately carry out their functions of touring the rural areas to ascertain needs of dwellers. Presenting the Ministry’s proposal for the coming year, the Commissioner, Hon. Falilu Sabitu affirmed that his ministry would continue to impact on the lives of rural dwellers, saying they would be empowered in areas where they have comparative advantage. He revealed that six villages would be provided with off-grid solar system, while 14 adjoining communities within the three senatorial districts would be supplied electricity. On rural roads, Sabitu said about 32 kilometer of roads with minimum width of 6.0 metres would be constructed in two senatorial districts, explaining that 48 solar powered borehole to provide potable water for small towns and rural communities far away from the national grid would also be provided.
