The Vice President, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo has stated Government's resolve to hasten the completion of all roads being dualized across the country.
He disclosed this today, while responding to a call made by the Emirate of Katagun on the Federal Government to complete the dualization of the Kano-Maiduguri road, during his courtesy visit to the palace of the Emir of Katagun in Azare, Bauchi State.
The Vice President stated that the major priority of the Federal Government on road projects was the completion of all road dualisation projects across the country.
He further stated that in order to hasten the completion of these projects, the Federal Government was committing part of the SURE-P funds to ensure that adequate funding was available for the projects.
Arc. Sambo also informed the Emirate on the progress made by the Federal Government in the Kafin Zaki Dam project, noting that approval has been given by the President for the implementation of the project.
Earlier in his remarks, the Emir of Katagum, H.R.H Muhammad Kabir Umar, who spoke through the Waziri of Katagum, Sule Katagum, expressed the gratitude of the emirate for the visit, as key human development areas such as agriculture, education, healthcare and infrastructural development were highlighted.
The Emir had used the opportunity to call on the Federal Government to hasten the execution of the Kafin Zaki Dam stressing that all the environmental and technical issues concerning the project had been resolved and contract awarded.
He added that when completed, the project would be the largest dam project in the country, and that the dam would have the capacity to irrigate about one thousand hectares of land, create large-scale employment, provide food and cash crops as well as fisheries in addition to other economic activities for the people.
The Emir also appealed to the Federal Government to hasten the completion of the Kano-Maiduguri road dualisation project pointing out that a large portion of that road cuts across the Katagum as well Jama'are Emirates in Bauchi State.
In a related development, the Vice president has called on the striking members of ASUU to call off their strike in the interest of the students and the nation.
Arc. Sambo made the call today in Gadau, Bauchi state, while commissioning the State University.
The Vice President said "ASUU should note that during negotiations, it requested the Federal Government to shift its position from its previous stance and the Federal Government did so positively. It is now the turn of ASUU to reciprocate this gesture by considering its position and act speedily to save our education from deterioration."
Arc. Namadi Sambo, however lauded the achievements of Isa Yuguda's government on its efforts in tackling the problems confronting the education sector in the state. He commended the governor's holistic
approach and also praised him for the full utilization of MDGs funds accruing to the state for education and other critical areas.
Earlier in his remarks, the Governor of Bauchi State, Isa Yuguda stated that the establishment of the university was informed by the realization of the role played by tertiary institutions of learning in the socio-economic development of any society.
He added that the university would afford indigenes and other Nigerians the opportunity to access University education and to acquire knowledge and the exposure needed to contribute their quota to their various communities, states and the nation at large.
