Ogun State government will procure 200 compactors and distribute them across the State to ensure a cleaner and safer environment for sustainable development next year. The State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun made this known today in Abeokuta while responding to the request of the Ministry of Environment at the on-going State Treasury Board meeting, adding that the gesture would also boost revenue generation efforts Governor Amosun said the compactors would be procured through a public-private partnership and charged the Ministry to be more committed to its statutory responsibility of managing the environment in a manner that could facilitate economic development. Earlier in his presentation, the outgoing Commissioner, Dr. Lanre Tejuoso said next year, the Ministry intends to construct 8,303meters length of drainage channels across the three Senatorial Districts and improve 80km of drainage networks to avert displacement of about 10,000 people. Tejuoso added that the ministry would also dredge 40km length of streams and rivers across the State to prevent flooding and also conduct baseline survey on Natural Disasters and Environmental Performance. The commissioner urged the public to collaborate with government in creating a better living environment for the populace, affirming that sustainable monitoring, inspection, research and collation of environmental data and publicity shall take preference in the activities of the ministry in the coming year.
