Ex-international Jonathan Akpoborie has saluted Kelechi Iheanacho, describing him as the heart and soul of the Eaglets attack.

Akpoborie will go on to liken Iheanacho to Victor Igbinoba, who was also a match winner as the 1985 Eaglets made history in China.

"Iheanacho is a great player, he is the soul of the team, without him, eaglets attack is nothing. Apart from getting goals, he created a lot of goals eaglets have scored," Akpoborie told MTNFootball.com.

"I could liken him to Victor Igbinoba during our time in 1985. They played the same way."

He continued: "The team were a little out of control and naïve against Uruguay, but Iheanacho took his cool and carried the team well.

"There were flashes of brilliance here and there, and it was two of those outstanding individual skill and vision from Iheanacho that brought about our goals against Uruguay."

Iheanacho has so far scored five goals and contributed several assists at the U17 World Cup in the UAE.
