For those thinking that victims of the deadly attacks by the Boko Haram sect would be compensated by government for their losses, it is now clear that the Federal Government does not have plans of compensating the victims who lost valuable property acquired through many years of hard work, blood and sweat.
The Boko Haram Islamic sect has brought pains, agonies and sorrows to many families who lost their breadwinners and are now finding it very difficult to survive and wishing they have been killed too to escape the agonising situation that they now find themselves.
President Goodluck Jonathan last week ruled out compensation for the Boko Haram victims but promised assistance by the government for those who have been affected one way or the other so that they would be able to cope with the challenges of life.
Jonathan spoke while receiving the report of the Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the North headed by Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki.
The President, who did not disclose in what form the assistance would come to the victims, said: "Government is not going to compensate. It is not an issue of compensation but how do we assist people who have suffered to get back to business one way or the other."
Jonathan noted that the country had never experienced internal terror like that of Boko Haram, stressing that the government was doing everything possible to overcome the challenge and ensure the security of lives and property. He expressed the hope that the report of the committee would assist the government in combating the menace of the Boko Haram sect.
On the Committee's recommendations, Jonathan pledged that government would look into all the suggestions and the recommendations with a view to implementing them. The committee in its report admitted that the leadership of the insurgent group had refused to have any further dialogue with them despite all their efforts.
Our prayers is just that the whole Bokoharam saga should end.
It'S just sad that Nigerians have to go through sad times like this all in the name of Bokoharam.
By God's grace no one will have any cause to ask for compensation cos Boko haram would be long forgotten
