Title: Cross River State - Governor Imoke Urges Children to Strive for Success in Life

The State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke has urged children in the State to ensure that they strive to be successful in whatever they do, adding that every of their mentors made sacrifices to be great and successful.The Governor gave the charge in Calabar recently, at the 2013 Day of the African Child organized by the Ministry of Women Affairs at the Cultural Centre Complex.

The 2013 Day of the African Child ceremony whose theme was, "Eliminating Harmful Social and Cultural Practices affecting Children: Our Collective Responsibility" enabled the Governor to interact personally with the Children and teaching them about personal sacrifice, how to succeed in life and sound living.

He noted that sacrifice made by any child should be one that should bring about freedom through hard work for success to be achieved.

The Children who were drawn from various Primary and Secondary Schools asked questions bordering on the educational sector and challenges in the State.

In her address, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Edak Iwuchukwu said the State Government has contributed to the enforcement of the Child Right Law  and the award of scholarships to members of the Children's Parliament in the State.She, however, enjoined the public to cooperate with Government to create an enabling environment for the discipline and growth of Children.

Also speaking, the Speaker of the Cross River State Children's Parliament, Miss Theresa Mose, led an advocacy talk whose theme, "Our Children Our Responsibility".

According to her, the problems faced by Cross River Children included, child mortality, rape, gender inequality, HIV/Aids, Malaria and other social and cultural malpractices.

She advocated for the teaching of the content of the Child Right law in schools to enable the children know when their rights are violated.

Present at the ceremony were, the Deputy Governor of the State, Mr. Efiok Cobham, as well as the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Larry Odeh.

This is a massive advise coming from the state governor. Things have to be done to make things work out for the children tho ...

Striving for success is something Nigerian youths never slack at. They are very very good with that.
