The Cross River State Civil Service Commission has interviewed over five thousand (5,000) Senior Civil Servants from all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) since the commencement of promotion interview approved by the State Government.
Of this number, more than two thousand senior civil servants interviewed have had their letters of promotion released to them.
The Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Sir Brian Ekpong, KSJ disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in his office in Calabar.
Sir Ekpong blamed the delay in releasing of all promotion letters to the lack of power supply and hoped that matters concerning promotion of eligible staff would be handled within the month of July 2013.
He advised those yet to be interviewed to be patient as the Commission is working round the clock to ensure that all Senior Civil Servants are interviewed.
The Chairman said that his assurance of tidying up all promotion matters within the month of July 2013, stems from the ongoing installation of generators at the New Secretariat Complex which he noted will provide the needed power supply to enable the Commission process the bulk of outstanding promotion letters to the beneficiaries.
Sir Ekpong maintained that no matter when a staff is interviewed, effective date of such promotion remain intact as well as the notional date which is based on when last such staff was elevated.
The Commission boss who described his office as, "just and fair" in carrying out its statutory responsibility, commended the State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke for his non interference posture towards the Commission adding that this has added value to the Commission as decisions on staff matters are arrived at by the Commission's leadership.
He stated further that the level of the discharge of the Commission's functions, is basically attributed to the freedom granted the Commission by the State Governor stressing that, "he has never sent in any name for recruitment or promotion as he does not believe in promotion by fiat but by merit".
Sir Ekpong who also spoke on the recently conducted Civil Service Day celebration, described it as "unique and fantastic".He said it was unique as the State Governor and his Deputy, the Secretary to the State Government; Service Chiefs were present adding that the presentation of prizes to beneficiaries by the State Governor himself was an added value to the celebration which he said he was privileged to chair.
While commending the Head of Service, Ntunkae (Mrs.) Mary-Theresa Ikwen, mni for the perfect organization of the celebration, Sir Ekpong expressed the hope that this will encourage civil servants to put in their best in the discharge of their assigned duties.
