Finnish President, Tarja Halonen, will swear in the new government in the early evening on Wednesday. Prior to that, Halonen will accept the resignation of Mari Kiviniemi's caretaker administration.

The president will first meet with the Speaker of Parliament, Ben Zyskowicz, on Tuesday. Halonen will then announce the Prime Minister candidate to the parliament, and the parliament will vote on the issue.

In order to be approved for the post, the candidate needs to receive a simple majority of votes.

The first plenary session of the new parliament will begin on Thursday at 1pm.
