Title: Cross River State - Akpabuyo Chairperson Honours 20 Indigenes for Contribution to Area

Twenty prominent indigenes of Akpabuyo Local Government Area have been presented with various categories of award by the Chairman of Council for their outstanding performance and contributions to the socio-economic development of the area.They include female politicians, entrepreneurs and Community mobilizers.

Presenting the award as part of activities to mark the 2013 democracy day in Akpabuyo Local Government Area, the Chairman of Council, Mrs. Josephine Effiom said Council could not at this critical time relegate such contributions to the background.

Barrister Effiom said Democracy day is a day that calls for sober reflections not only because of its significance to National advancement but also a period of stock taking.

The Council Chairman identified the contributions of former politicians, community leaders and the business society as potent cases of worthy of recognition.

Also speaking, the wife of the State Governor, Mrs. ObiomaLiyelImoke said the recognition given to women, especially, is a morale booster and sued for continued support.

Mrs. ObiomaLiyel-Imoke who was represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Glory EfiokCobham said for the Council Chairman to deem it expedient to recognize worthy ambassadors of the area, was a welcome development.

The Governor's wife said the women will always advocate their social and political advancement in the face of stronger competition with the men.

Among those awarded were; Mrs. EkanemIkpeme, first female Chairman of Council, Chief Josephine Coco-Bassey, second female Chairman of Council and Rev. Mrs. Grace Ekanem, former Commissioner and President, National Council of Women Society.

Also recognized was the first female leader of the Akpabuyo legislative Council, Miss AnyinEyoEffiom, among others.
