The first phase of the HIV/AIDS campaign for the Most at Risk Population (MARP) has ended in Kano with a community dialogue meeting.
The first pilot project campaign planned to last for five years organized by an NGO- `Women and Youth Development Organization` (WAYDO) and `Society for Family Health` (SFH) started in Sabon Gari, a suburb in the State in view of the concentration of intercourse workers in that area of the state.
The campaign tagged: "First phase of the SHIPS for MARPS" project, cares education and train-the-trainers workshop were conducted for several weeks for the targeted participants. Participants benefitted in goal setting, skill acquisition and self esteemed courses to empower them to take decisions in helping themselves and co-intercourse workers in their various brothels.
The intercourse workers were encouraged to know their status and in the use of condom not to increase the spread of HIV/AIDS.
The organizer and Director General of the NGO, Women and Youth Development Organization and the Society for Family Health, Mrs. Ladi Wayi commended the Kano State Hoteliers Association for their cooperation and assistance toward making the pilot project a success.
