Post by: Shola Sholaz on Nov 17, 2013, 11:04 PM
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi and some other prominent traditional rulers in the state, week‑end, visited Governor Abiola Ajimobi to thank him for appointing their children as commissioners.
.
Oba Adeyemi who led other traditional rulers, commended the gesture of Governor Ajimobi, saying he was following the footsteps of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
.
The traditional rulers were from different zones of the state.
.
Among other rulers that visited the governor were Aseyin of Iseyin, Eleruwa of Eruwa and Onpetu
.
According to Alaafin, the governor was giving the same reverence and exemplary deference to the institution of traditional rulership like it was done in the then Western Region of Nigeria by Chief Awolowo in 1956.
.
Besides, Oba Adeyemi also recalled that the idea of ministerial appointment to Obas as a means of creating rapport between the executive arm of government and traditional rulership up to cabinet level, initiated by Chief Awolowo was also borrowed by the Second Republic Governor of Oyo State, the late Chief Bola Ige with the appointment of the then Ataoja of Osogbo and Eleruwa of Eruwa into his cabinet as commissioners without portfolio.
.
The monarch said: "I am of the strong opinion that the factors that made the experience succeed before will also be around to ensure its success during your own time too."
.
Responding, Governor Ajimobi,  claimed full responsibility for the appointment of the children of the traditional rulers as commissioners, saying that none of their fathers solicited for them.
