Title: Cross River State - South-South/South East Wives of Governors Convene 1st National Summit on Widowhood

A 2-day National Widowhood Summit, the first of its kind in Nigeria, is to hold Monday, July 15 and Tuesday, July 16 2013 at Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

Jointly convened by the Wives of Governors of the South- South and South East States in Nigeria, the Summit provides a platform to share ideas towards seeking solution to the many challenges plaguing widows in Nigeria.

According to the Facilitator of the Summit, Her Excellency, Mrs. Obioma Liyel-Imoke, Wife of Governor of Cross River State, the Summit would be chaired by Senator Helen Esuene, Chair, Senate Committee on Women Affairs.

The theme of the conference, according to Mrs. Liyel-Imoke, who is also the Founder/Board Chair, Partnership Opportunities for Women Empowerment Realization, POWER, is "'Louder Please!': A Call for Increased Advocacy and Interventions on Widows Rights in Nigeria."

The Keynote Speaker at the event was Hajia Zainab Maina, Hon. Minister for Women Affairs and would be hosted by Her Excellency, Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Godswill Akpabio, Wife of the Executive Governor, Akwa Ibom State.
