Post by: CrossRiverState on Nov 19, 2013, 03:31 PM
Following the successful celebration of the 2013 Civil Service Day, prominent personalities have been x-raying the service and its operators.

One of such is a retired Civil Servant, Mr. Egbe Etta Mbang who bore his mind in an interview with newsmen in Calabar.

Mr. Mbang who was asked to comment on the Service before and now, stated that as far as he was concerned, the service had experienced tremendous change as Civil Servants now take their jobs more seriously.

He said that from the evidence on ground, the Service had moved from the era of lackluster approach, to duties of productive and effective service delivery.

Mr. Mbang who is now a consultant on development Research and Human Resource, said that he decided to join force with the service to develop the reportorial skills of the workforce to enhance the needed communication skill in the Service.

Mr. Mbang who retired from Service in 2009, stressed that retirement from service should not be seen as an end to life, but a challenge to create new opening in one's life, pointing out that it was as a result of this believe, that he decided to explore consulting opportunity at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, where he carried out a consultancy service for the Health Reform Foundation of Nigeria on strategic communication and behavioural change.

The Consultant, who said he had carried out similar consultancy services across the nation, said he decided to concentrate in the State because of the concern he has for the Management Development Institute (MDI) which he said was yet to be fully explored.

He said that he had made several attempts, aimed at bringing the Institute to a world class standard pointing out that this was yet to materialise.

He further pointed out that though the initial attempt at contributing towards the repositioning of the MDI failed, he had to press on the incumbent Head of Service to receive his proposal, who saw its credibility and decided to okay the idea.

Mr. Mbang lauded the Head of Service for the passion she has for the overall well-being of the service and informed that from facts available, the Head of Service would do anything humanly possible to improve and reform the service to meet the desired world class standard that would bring about good governance.

Effective Service Delivery is something we don't really have in Nigeria so this is worth praising.
