Youths in the country have been advised to resist attempts by enemies of the nation to perpetrate vices that are detrimental to the peaceful co-existence of the country.
The Head of Service, Ntunkae (Mrs.) Mary-Theresa Ikwen, mni gave the advice when members of the National Youth Forum paid her a courtesy call in her office in Calabar.
The Head of Service noted that as leaders of tomorrow, the youths were expected to live a life devoid of rancor and other forms of destructive tendencies.
Ntunkae (Mrs.) Ikwen who was represented by the Director, Human Resource Data Base, Pastor (Mrs.) Elizabeth Etu, said that on no account should the youths succumb to pressure of being used to cause mayhem in any part of the country adding that such action common in some parts of the country was worrisome to the leadership at the various levels of government in the country and appealed for a halt in that direction.
She expressed delight that the youths from the six geo-political zones of the country under the aegis of National Youth Forum came together to address the various ills plagueing the Nation and prayed God to see them through.
The Head of Service commended the youths for recognizing her modest contributions towards the growth of the Service as demonstrated through the presentation of award of excellence to her.
Earlier in his speech, the National President of the National Youth Forum, Mr. Olofinmoyin Olasunkanmi disclosed that the forum was specifically out to sensitize the youths against vices such as drug abuse, examination malpractices, political thurggry, prostitution, child abuse; terrorism and militancy which he noted have become a menace in the country.
He said that the forum decided to honour the Head of Service because of her contributions to the development of the service in particular and the nation in general.
The President said that the membership of National Youth Forum cuts across the entire states of the Federation devoid of tribes, religion or ethnicity.
Mr. Olasunkanmi said that the forum realizing the danger confronting the youth in the face of unemployment, has charted a course towards self reliance which had reached an advanced stage at creating jobs for thousands of youths, as Cross River State in particular, was expected to benefit from 10,000 of such jobs from the National Youth Forum Initiative.
He, however, solicited the support and co-operation of the Head of Service in actualizing the dreams of the forum.
The youths of a state determine the progress of that state. Nigerian youths must know that
Youths determine the growth of any area. If they're well behaved things will change positively.
