The Authorities of the Management Development Institute (MDI), has announced the re-structuring and upgrading of the Institute with the mandate to develop capacity in the public and private sectors of the economy.
This is to enhance the building of the much needed human capacity in the service for the enhancement of effective and efficient service delivery.
The Permanent Secretary/Director-General Management Development Institute (MDI), Mrs. Florence Offiong Ekefre disclosed this while briefing newsmen in her office in Calabar.
Mrs. Ekefre announced that the Institute had concluded arrangements to kick-start the underlisted career development courses from July, 2013.
According to the Permanent Secretary, the Executive Officers' course which is a twelve-month certificate course designed for secretarial staff, chief typist and qualified data processors who wish to transfer to executive cadre, stating that at the end of the course, participants would be eligible to work effectively in the administrative departments of their MDAs and any other organizations.
Qualification for this course as stated by the MDI boss, include five passes in English Language in GCE/SSCE (O/L) or its equivalent, while applicants are expected to be secretaries, Chief typist or data processors on salary GL 09 with at least five years cognate experience.
Also billed to commence in July, 2013, according to the Permanent Secretary, is the Assistant Executive Officers course in administration, which is a certificate course for Senior Clerical Officers/Administration, and expected to last for six months, while applicants are to possess five (5) passes in GCE or its equivalent, including English Language and Mathematics, as well as pass the category 'C' confirmation promotion examination (ConPro) at promotion level and must be on grade level 04 and above.
Equally in the line with courses slated to commence from this month, is the Assistant Executive Officers' Course in Accounts, which is a certificate programme organized for Senior Clerical Officers in Accounts, which is to last for six months with the qualification expected from applicants to include, five passes in GCE or its equivalent, including English Language and Mathematics, as well as passing the category 'C' Confirmation /Promotion Examination (Compro) at promotion level and must be on GL 04 and above.
The Permanent Secretary also disclosed that the Assistant Executive Officers, Revenue, would equally undergo a six months training programme, which is specifically for Officers who are presently performing revenue duties, while the qualifications expected of the applicants include, five passes in GCE or its equivalent, including English Language and Mathematics, pass in the category 'C' of the Confirmation/Promotion Examination (Conpro) at promotion level and must be on grade level 04 and above as well as hold the first school leaving certificate with good track records/work experience.
Also billed for commencement, is the Clerical skill course to last for twelve (12) months, which is organized for Head Messengers, on salary grade level 04 and officers of Allied Grades who wish to acquire skills in Office Practice and Accounting that would enable them transfer to the Clerical Cadre with five passes including credit in English Language in GCE O/L or its equivalent or First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) as basic qualification.
Equally scheduled for commencement from this month, is the Advance Secretariat Studies Course expected to last for twelve months and is specifically for qualified Confidential Secretary III, who have served on the post for at least one year after training, while the qualifications expected of the applicants must include, five passes including Credit in English Language in GCE O/L or its equivalent, as well as 100/50 W.P.M in Shorthand and Typewriting and Word Processing.
Method of application, according to the Permanent Secretary, is on payment of a non-refundable fee of N2,500.00 (Two thousand five hundred Naira) only to obtain the application forms at the Institute, while completed forms must be countersigned by the applicants Head of Department, confirming the nomination, adding that forms not duly authenticated would be rejected.
Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Chief Executive Officers of Private Organizations, including Chairmen of Local Government Councils, are therefore requested to nominate qualified staff for the programme.
