Bayer Leverkusen boss Rudi Voeller said he will fight to keep winger Sidney Sam amidst reports the Germany midfielder is set to join Schalke 04 next season.

"We'll sit down and discuss things in January, that's also what Sidney Sam wants," Bayer's director of sport Voeller told Sky with Sam under contract until June 2015.

"He knows that we want to extend his contract, with terms that are feasible.

"And if not, Bayer Leverkusen will go on, as always." Reports broke in the German media last week that Sam is set to sign a three-year deal with Schalke in a transfer worth €2.5 million for 2014/15.

Sam made the last of his five appearances for Germany in last month's 1-0 friendly win over England at Wembley.
Bayer Leverkusen did very well in today's game and that is very good for their fans as they made them proud.
