Malaga moved above the Spanish danger zone on Friday with a tight 1-0 win at Elche.

The only goal came after just seven minutes, when Malaga's Ignacio Camacho headed in an inch-perfect free-kick from dead-ball specialist Duda.

Elche's hopes of turning the game around went up in smoke on the hour, when right-back Damian Suarez was sent off for an ugly foul on Camacho.

The win took Malaga up to ninth, kept Elche in 14th place and relieved pressure on Malaga's embattled coach Bernd Schuster.

"This was an important win for us. We really need the three points to stay out of trouble," said Camacho.

"Things have not been very easy for us recently. Let's hope that this helps to calm things down a little bit."
