Simon Cowell has promised to try and quit smoking when his son is born, but admitted while he has tried using 'electronic cigarettes', he feels simply cutting down on his habit is the best way forward.

The media mogul's girlfriend Lauren Silverman is pregnant with their first child, and he has no intention of lighting up a cigarette in front of their offspring.

Asked by LBC 97.3 radio if he'll smoke in front of his son, he said: 'No, I won't do that, I've learnt that. 'I'm trying to do electronic cigarettes, they're not bad. But moderation would be better.' The 'X Factor' boss had previously insisted while he wouldn't kick the habit for good, he was already looking at ways to make his home baby-proof so he can raise his son in the best possible environment.

Recently talking about the changes he'll have to make Simon, 54, noted he will have a dedicated 'smoking room', while hiding away his booze and cigarettes. He said:

'There are a lot of boring things that happen when you have a baby. 'You have to get rid of sharp edges, cigarettes, alcohol ... then there's the toilet to make safe. But I'll have a smoking room!'
Then that child should come to this world on time cos smoking is no good to anyone's health.
I do not think he is serious about it because i just see all this as an excuse to not stop yet.
Obviously, He is not ready to quit yet.
Well it is his personal life so he can do whatever he likes with it. He can even decide not to quit forever.
It is his own life so he has to make his own decisions. So he doesn't have to make it public.
