The University in collaboration with Women In Academics, WIA will endow a Prize to the best female student of the Home Economics and Hotel Management Department in memory of a departed lecturer in the Department, Mrs Arike Oluwakemi Omotayo.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Oluyemisi Obilade made this announcement during the launching of the Arike Oluwakemi Omotayo Book Crib donated by the husband and a lecturer at the Sociological Studies Department, Mr Olatubosun Omotayo. Prof Obilade while commending Mr Omotayo for his kind gesture, noted that generations yet unborn would benefit from the books. She promised that the University would add to the book crib.

In the same vein, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof Joseph.O. Olusanya described Mrs Omotayo as a dedicated, uncompromising and dutiful academia.

"She was fine academia who was committed to her job and never shirk from responsibities" he added.

The librarian, Mr Jasliu Kadiri while accepting the books, applauded the efforts of the donor for doing something worthwhile in memory of his wife. He then promised to put the books into judicious use.

Mr Omotayo disclosed that the concept of Arike Oluwakemi Omotayo Book Crib for Home Economics and Hotel Management was to entrench the Institution as the preferred University of Education.

He further added that his wife's fervour for academics spurred him in establishing the book crib.
