Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA)
branch today petitioned the Ondo State
Commissioner of Police, Patrick Dokumor over the
disruption of its meeting and assault on its
members by the special internal security of the
University.

In a letter dated January 29, addressed to the CP by
its lawyer,Charles Titiloye , the union called the
attention of the CP to the attack and assault by the
Sheriff Deputies on its members while holding a
meeting at its Secretariat in the Campus. They are
claiming that the assault followed an instruction by
the University Vice-Chancellor, Prof Femi Mimiko.

Titiloye noted that the tyres of vehicles brought by
ASUU officials from University of Ibadan and Benue
state University were deflated by the said Security
outfit.

Besides,he said the AmSUU Chairman in AAUA and
another member as well as former Speaker of the
Ondo State House of Assembly,Mr Oluwasegunota.
Bolarinwa, were assaulted by the Security men who
were armed with machetes.

He added that they were later hospitalized as a
result of the grievous body harm inflicted on them
by the security men .

Titiloye noted
that ASUU as a
law abiding Union reported the matter to the Chief
Security Officer(CSO) of the University and the
Police Station at Akungba Akoko but the police are
yet to make any arrest.

According to him," When the Union contacted the
Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to know the step
taken by Police since Monday, they were referred to
Area Commander(AC) office at Owo.

"The Area commander office of Nigerian Police at
Owo has however claimed ignorance of the case
and directed the Union officials back to Akungba
Akoko.

ASUU therefore appealed to the CP to order for the
arrest, investigation and prosecution of the private
security men called "Sheriff Deputies" that
attacked and assaulted its members.

Relativelt, the Seven-days strike called by AAU
ASUU chapter to protest the attack and assault on
its members by the security men entered its third
day with lecture rooms deserted by both lecturers
and Students.

The University private security is reported to have gone into hiding because they fear that the students who were unhappy about the development may attack them.

It was also learnt that the said security Outfit had in the past molested some students of the institution.
