Title: Poly Ibadan Students Appeal To Govt To End To The One-Month Old Strike
Post by: femifemzy3 on Jan 30, 2014, 11:58 PM
Students of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, have appealed to the governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, to put an end to the four-week old strike embarked upon by the academic staff of the institution.
.
In a statement jointly signed by the Senate President of the students union, Odediran Babatunde and Majority Leader, Abisoye Taofeek, the students urged the governor to meet the demands made by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), The Polytechnic, Ibadan chapter and the management of the institution so that they could resume academic activities.
.
The students, who attributed the strike to an alleged underpayment of 7 per cent peculiar academic allowance and payment of 40 per cent balance of the hazard allowance by the management to ASUP, said, ''the strike has collapsed academic activities in The Polytechnic, Ibadan. We are tired of sitting at home and we do not want a course we are to spend two years on to extend to four years."
.
They, however, called on the state government to improve their welfare conditions on campus by renovating the students' hostel buildings, provide conducive atmosphere for learning, renovate dilapidated structures and provide portable water.
