Job Title: Senior Engineer, IP Core Transmission

Job Summary: Plan, design and optimize core and access transmission network to support migration of transport to an all IP Technology.
Principal Functions:
• Plan and design network infrastructure (nodes, sites & links) for IP/MPLS, Core IP backbones, LAN, WAN and office network.
• Develop and manage the IP addressing scheme, allocation and distribution for all network nodes and elements in the Core IP & IP/MPLS backbone.
• Plan all IP backbone integration events, issue Work Orders and control project processes for capacity expansion, node integration and/or new service introduction.
• Plan redundancy and elimination of single points of failure to IP backbone networks and all mission critical components and services.
• Plan, design and optimize traffic routing within the Core IP & IP/MPLS backbone.
• Design and coordinate implementation of quality & class of service techniques, network security measures across the core IP backbone network
• Plan, schedule and conduct site visits and surveys for accurate and effective network design, dimensioning and integration planning.
• Maintain system documentation, including licenses, user manuals, hardware and software inventory, security listings, and diagrams.
• Conduct and report daily capacity utilization across the Core IP backbone
• Conduct weekly & monthly network performance monitoring, trend analyses and capacity planning in line with network growth trends and increases in traffic.
• Work closely with enterprise sales & functional technical teams and directly with clients to conceptualize, plan and architect technology solutions to meet client needs
• Perform any other duties as assigned by Manager, Core Transmission Planning
Educational Requirements:
• Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or a related field with a minimum of 3 – 5 years of relevant experience.
• Postgraduate/ professional qualification in a related field will be an added advantage.
Experience,Skills & Competencies:
• Cisco and Huawei design certification or equivalent experience
• Expert Level Knowledge in IP routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF and RIP and of enhanced technologies such as MPLS and VPLS.
• Detailed knowledge of Ethernet, ATM, SDH/SONET, Frame Relay, Packet over SDH/SONET, WDM, wireless technologies, Access technologies (DSL, cable, and lease lines), Layer 3 Traffic Engineering and L2 Traffic Management.
• Experience in Network Management, Operation Support Systems (OSS) and Business Support Systems (BSS) is a plus.
• Extensive knowledge of VoIP and QOS standards.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
