NIGERIA CORRESPONDENT, ABUJA The Nigeria bureau is looking for an energetic and resourceful correspondent to be part of the small team covering Africa's No. 1 oil producer and its most dynamic economy, the epitome of the Africa Rising narrative. The successful candidate should preferably have a knowledge of oil production and the oil markets, but also be a talented all-round reporter, able to switch from covering the oil minister's news conference and a budget statement to reporting on the bloody insurgency of the Islamist sect Boko Haram in the restless north or sectarian clashes in central Plateau state. The job requires considerable patience and perseverance to deal with obstructive authorities, erratic communications and a challenging working environment. The role also involves a certain amount of time spent editing copy from stringers, especially in the north. It also requires hostile environment training for trips to the north and elsewhere in the country. The Abuja correspondent reports to the Nigeria Chief Correspondent based in Lagos. The candidate will be expected to provide high-quality spot cover of policy-making, regulation and politics from the capital and seat of government Abuja. Besides this he/she will also be expected to report and write insightful longer-format stories on Nigeria's complex political, economic and social reality. As Nigeria approaches presidential and legislative elections in 2015, President Goodluck Jonathan is facing splits and defections within his own ruling party and pressure from opponents not to stand for re-election amid the fierce North-South rivalry that has marked the country's history as an independent state. Chronic corruption, the brutal Boko Haram rebellion and dealing with Africa's largest population are among the challenges the Nigerian government faces. Despite these problems, Nigeria remains a magnet for foreign investors, who seek a stake not only in its hydrocarbons riches but also in one of the fastest growing retail markets in the world. It is one of the so-called "MINT" countries – alongside Mexico, Indonesia and Turkey – seen as successors to the first wave of emerging markets dubbed the BRICs (Brazil, Russia and India and China).

Qualifications:
• At least three years reporting experience – Knowledge of oil production and energy markets a plus.
• Willingness to travel and overcome technical difficulties.
• Hostile environment training.
• Proven track record of cultivating sources and breaking news
