Title: Ondo NLC threatens to sue national secretariat
Post by: Davo on Jun 29, 2011, 06:30 AM
A major crisis is brewing between the organised labour in Ondo State and the national secretariat of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) as labour leaders in the state,
On Tuesday, threatened to sue the acting national secretary of the congress, Owei Lakemfa.

The Ondo State labour leaders had given the national secretary 48 hours to tender unreserved apology over his comment on the result of the negotiation between the state government and labour leaders over the implementation of the N18, 000 minimum wage.

Besides, the workers under the auspices of the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) said there was no going back on the implementation of the N18, 000 minimum wage as it had not abandoned the struggle for the implementation of the new salary structure.

The JNC chairman, Solomon Adelegan, while reacting to the allegation by Lakemfa that the labour leaders criminally conspired with the state government to accept N14,000 as minimum wage, said the comment of the labour leader was "reckless and unguided".
Adelegan said what the labour leaders agreed with the state government was the payment of N14, 000 salary relativity which other states were enjoying before the coming of the N18, 000 minimum wage.
Meanwhile, pensioners in Ondo State, on Tuesday, embarked on a peaceful protest over the non-payment of their pension arrears by the state government.

Government activities were grounded for about two hours as the pensioners blocked the road leading to the Governor's Office. The convoy of the state deputy governor, Alhaji Ali Olanusi, which ran into the protesters was prevented from entering the Governor's Office while the deputy governor alighted from his official vehicle to walk the remaining distance to his office.
