The controversy that erupted with the process of choosing a new Vice Chancellor for Nnamdi Azikiwe University UNIZIK, Awka have been put to bed as the Governing Council has finally appointed Prof Joseph Eberendu Ahaneku, who is the current deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), as the new VC.

The UNIZIK Director of information, Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, confirmed the news as well as denying the earlier radio announcement that Prof. Greg Nwakoby was the person appointed.

Prof. Ahaneku, who is from Mbaise Imo State, will assume office on June 3, 2014.

He will be taking over from Prof. Boniface Egboka, who has been vice-chancellor since June 2008 after the expiration of his 5-years tenure.
