Title: LASU School Fees Reduced By State Government
Post by: Shola Sholaz on Jun 12, 2014, 09:47 AM
The Lagos State Government has soft pedaled on the school fees hike of the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo as they have announced the reduction of the school fees for students.
.
The announcement came from the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr Fatai Olukoga who said the school fees has been reviewed downwards by 34 to 60 percent across all faculties.
.
He assured that the government is passionate about re-positioning LASU and would spare no efforts in transforming the university to a citadel of excellence.
.
Olukoga however said that the reduction of the fees would not preclude the giving of bursaries and scholarship to indigent students of the institution by the state government.
.
Meanwhile, the President of the LASU Student Union Government (SUG), Nurudeen Yusuf, has described the reduction as unacceptable because the government did not state specifically what each student would pay.
.
"When the fee was hiked, it was not by percentage, it was specific; now that they claim they are reducing it, they are talking percentage. This is unacceptable and a huge joke," he said.
.
We just hope that the Lagos State Government would reduce the fees to a reasonable sum that is affordable for all the students as education is the right of everyone irrespective of social class.
