The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Dibu Ojerinde, who is from Oke Ogun has urged his people to take advantage of the federal government's provision for establishing private universities and get one for themselves.
.
He said that the town needs a private university as several efforts to get the federal or state governments' own university located in the area had failed.
.
In their determination to ensure that their children have easy access to tertiary education, the people of Oke Ogun in Oyo State are proposing to establish a private university to be named Oke Ogun University.
.
The acting president of Oke Ogun Development Council (ODC), Mr. Doja Oladele, said the community is in need of a tertiary institution as the town has a population of about 1.5 million people covering a land mass of about two-third of the present Oyo State.
.
Mr. Oladele lamented that their children have to travel hundreds of kilometres to have access to tertiary education which is not ideal as the policy of 'catchment area' always affects their admission.
.
He told an interactive session with the Committee on Private Universities of the National Universities Commission (NUC), that the people of Oke Ogun wants to establish the university in no distant time.
