The management of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) revealed that plans has been concluded to start a Professional Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) programme in Sports Development.

Prof. Roseline Konya, Provost College of Graduate Studies said that the programme will be aimed at providing graduates with the training required to explore their skills for sustainable sports development and recreation in the country.

"The programme will focus on discovering and training young graduates to be able to compete globally and practise professionally in their respective areas of specialisation," the Provost said.

She said the programme will also offer graduates the opportunity to get knowledge in Sports Journalism, Marketing and Refereeing.

The Provost added that the programme would help the university in consolidating on its dominance of sporting activities after the school won the Nigerian University Games (NUGA) a record five times and are the reigning West African Universities Games (WAUG) champions.
